This section is primarily for producers. Here we will host and share educational opportunities for people to learn more about farming, food, health, etc…
Farmers United Network
The Farmers United Network (FUN) will be a multi-faceted area, with the following projects being in the works:
Cooperative Locavore Deliveries
The FARMS FUN will be working toward managing what was currently another farms “Locavore Delivery” system. It will begin with a select group of committed locavores interested in sustaining area farmers who are producing only the highest quality foods, both smallscale, through a CSA, and/or through bulk-split orders. During the transition, this pilot project will be semi-closed. We will take names of parties interested in joining the purchasing efforts in the future.
Sharing the Load
This is a two part project.
First, we will be an Exchange Area, where farmers can post equipment/product/labor/grants/questions that they have, or would like, and others can support their needs or wants, as possible. This will be open to producer members only, not the public and/or consumers.
The second part of this project will be working on an equipment/labor-sharing system (grain grinders, tractors, seeders, etc), so that farmers can be more financially successful: less debt, insurance and tax, etc. In the future, we are hoping to have a central community kitchen where producers can add value to their products for legal sales. Other ideas are pending.
Learning Together
Our volunteers will be actively forming and assisting programs that will bring education to our farmers: current laws, taxes, land use policies, etc. We will have a few key members advocating and sharing what is current, what is useful, and what will help our agricultural businesses be as successful as possible.
